Bangkok, Thailand

Welcome to Bangkok, Thailand....
Yep,  it's a long flight to get here ~ 30 + hours door to door and feeling out of kilter with a 15 hour time zone difference doesn't help ~ but Man ~ what a place!
A city of 8 million plus and more scooters, motorcycles, and tuktuks per square km. that I've ever seen!  Street food and other venders - up one side and down the other on almost every street; Beautiful Temples scattered over the city, Markets everywhere ~ all in an 88 degree sultry Thai January!

                                                                      Big Star Fruit

                                                              Fried Fish Anyone?

.....or just fish of any kind?

                                                                        Grilled??
Lots of options in the soup department

Carol looks tentative ~ but nothing says breakfast in Bangkok like assorted meats, egg, and rice!
(it was so good ~ and cheap ~ $1.50/ea.  that we ate here again for lunch today)

Aebelskiver?  Nope!  Gooey coconut balls with assorted fillings

Wat Traimit on edge of Chinatown

Come get some....

Tomorrow we leave for Siem Reap, Cambodia and the temples of Ankgor Wat
the beginning of our cross country excursion through Cambodia (about 10 days) on our way to Vietnam.  Bangkok has been great and we will return here in late February.
Today we rode all over Bangkok on the Sky Train -  which is an awesome metro system.  We started out at 6:30 am and stopped by Wat Pathumwanaram on our way to the gigantic weekend market at Chatuchak in north Bangkok.

Wat Pathumwanaram ~ one of many temples in Bangkok

  1. Hi Uncle Don and Aunt Carol! It looks like you've had a fantastic time in Bangkok, I can't wait to read about the rest of your travels throughout SE Asia. Enjoy the sights, sounds, tastes, smells--and especially the weather (i.e. no snow).
